Inulin as a Sweetener - Fiber Choice®

Inulin as a Sweetener

October 13, 2020

Who doesn’t love dessert? All those with a sweet tooth are in luck because today is National Dessert Day! While the health-conscious angel on your shoulder might be telling you to skip that cookie or slice of cake, there are plenty of ways to indulge on this, the sweetest day of the year, without feeling guilty or deviating too much from your regular diet. With alternative sweeteners and other ingredient replacements, there’s no reason you can’t have your cake and eat it too.

Alternative Fats and Oils:

Ditch the butter or margarine and replace it with an avocado. You read that right—an avocado! High in monounsaturated fat, avocado works well as a butter substitute, particularly in chocolate-based recipes. Additionally, a cup of banana can replace a cup of oil in many recipes. It also adds some additional vitamin C, vitamin A, and potassium.

Flour Alternatives:

Instead of enriched white flour that’s loaded with carbs, try one of the countless alternatives like almond flour, whole grain flour, or brown rice flour.

Sweet Substitutes:

In addition to common alternative sweeteners like stevia or agave, inulin- a soluble plant fiber- can add sweetness to your recipes while cutting carbs. Found in many fruits and vegetables including chicory root, inulin is about 50-70% as sweet as sugar with only ten calories per serving.

Inulin fiber is the same fiber found in Fiber Choice® prebiotic fiber supplements. In addition to indulging in some sweet treats on National Dessert Day, add some flavor to your water with Fiber Choice® Flavor Drops™, or enjoy the sweet berry flavor of Fiber Choice® tablets or gummies.
